NetSupport’s Manager has always been one of our top choices for on-premises remote support and last year, the company moved into cloud-hosted support with its 247connect solution. Designed to be easy to manage and use, 247connect has seen significant updates since we last reviewed it in issue 373; the technician control app is now available for Windows, macOS and iOS devices, with an Android version on the way.

For unattended access, you have managed agents for Windows, macOS and Android. The 247connect web portal has seen a number of enhancements including integration with ServiceNow, HALO ITSM and Saleforce, plus support for Apple SSO and audit histories for individual technicians.

"The technician cloud portal is easy on the eye"

The technician cloud portal is easy on the eye and its dashboard presents an overview of licence usage and expiry dates, along with quick links to deployment tasks and documentation. The left pane provides access to account settings, device assignments and running on-demand sessions, while the views of managed agents can be organised into custom groups.

New technicians are invited by sending them an email from the portal and choosing local, Apple, Google or Microsoft authentication.
Access security is excellent, as you can assign default or custom roles to determine what support services each one can use.

The 247connect zero-trust policy means that when new users are invited into the account they don’t have any access permissions until you decide which managed groups they can see. Their last task is to install the Control app, with deployment options including Microsoft InTune.

For unattended access, managed agents for Windows, macOS and Android are available from the portal, and more security is evident here as
each device is initially placed in the portal’s Unassigned group. They can’t be accessed by technicians until an account admin moves them to a custom group or sub-group.

Unattended sessions are easily started by choosing a host and selecting the view, file transfer, chat, message or tools icons. The
remote control interface toolbar provides quick links to tasks, and new features including PowerShell, a Registry editor, task manager and
session-recording tools have now been added to the interface.

We loaded the Android-managed agent on our Samsung mobile from Google Play and scanned the QR code in the portal to register it with our
account. After assigning it to a group, our technicians could remotely control the mobile, send messages and chat with the end user.

"This cloud-hosted solution is incredibly easy to use, offers great access security and is available in a range of affordable plans"

On-demand sessions are started with one click, which loads a new window with a unique 6-digit code and options to copy the web link and
email it. When the end user clicks on the link, a web page opens with essential details of the technician and company name, a warning not to accept unsolicited requests and a link for the runtime app.

Once the app is registered, the technician can choose from view, file transfer, chat or message options. Another window pops up on the host advising the user of the level of access being requested and, once approved, the session starts with the technician receiving the same remote control interface as with unattended sessions.

NetSupport has years of experience in the remote support market and it brings its expertise to bear with 247connect. This cloud-hosted
solution is incredibly easy to use, offers great access security and is available in a range of affordable plans.

It’s for good reason that NetSupport’s Manager has spent so long on the PC Pro A-List as it’s simply the best on-premises remote support solution. The company has now decided it’s time to move into the cloud-hosted support market, and in this review we take an early look at its new 247connect product.
It offers a flexible pricing structure based on on-demand and managed requirements - view pricing here. You can purchase either or both components with bespoke quotes, and a 14-day trial is available that doesn’t require any credit card details.
The technician portal presents an overview of product licence status along with quick links to key deployment tasks. The left pane provides access to account settings, starting on-demand sessions and accessing unattended agents.
More technicians are added by sending them emails from the portal and choosing local, Google or Microsoft authentication. Roles lock down access security as you decide what support features each technician can access.

Three default roles are provided, with options to create custom roles and apply selected account, operator and on-demand permissions. 247connect employs a zero-trust philosophy so when new users are issued an on-demand licence, they don’t have any access permissions until you assign them a role.
Before starting your first session, you download the Control app from the portal and install it on all technician systems, with deployment options including Microsoft InTune. Only the Windows installer was available to us, with versions for macOS and iOS coming soon.
On-demand sessions are started with one click. This loads a new window with a unique six-digit code and facilities to add a custom message, copy the web link and email it. Control is firmly in the end user’s hands; when they click on the link, a web page opens with full details of the technician and company, sage advice on ensuring the request is from a trusted source and a button to download the runtime app, which loads another window that requests the session code.

The technician selects the system from their portal and chooses from the view, file transfer, chat or messaging options. Further permission is required from the user before the session can start, and the technician can also view a full inventory of the remote system’s hardware.
The on-demand remote control screen presents a toolbar across the top for clipboard sharing, taking screenshots, chat and messaging, with the file-sharing tool loading a separate window for drag-and-drop copies. PowerShell, a Registry editor, and task manager has also been added, with session-recording coming soon.

"It offers a strong alternative to the established names... good value and easy to use!"

Attended agents are currently available for Windows and Android devices, with one for macOS in development. The Windows agents can be manually installed or deployed with Group Policy Object, and we loaded the Android agent from Google Play and scanned the QR code in the portal to register the mobile with our account.
Zero trust comes into play again here as new unattended agents are placed in the “Unassigned” group and can only be accessed once they have been placed in a custom group or sub-group. From the roles assignment wizard, you can also decide which groups each technician is allowed to access.
From what we’ve seen it offers a strong alternative to the established names. Its pricing plans are good value, it’s easy to use, and its zero-trust foundation delivers extra-tight controls.
